Victor

 

Johnson

Victor Johnson, a native of Dallas, Texas, is the school choral editor for the educational publishing division of Choristers Guild. A prolific composer and arranger, he has more than 350 choral works, vocal solo books, and keyboard collections currently in print. Previously, he was a choral director at the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts. During his time there, he directed the Academy Singers, the Academy Men’s Choir, and was artistic director of the Singing Girls of Texas and Children’s Choir of Texas. Johnson is in demand as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician for music educators and students throughout the United States. His choirs have performed at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention as well as the American Choral Directors Association Southwest Division conference. His professional affiliations include the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (commonly known as “ASCAP”).

's Core Class

Effective teaching happens when the teacher has done extensive, practical, and purposeful planning. In these sessions, Victor Johnson will talk about methods that will help teachers and students stay motivated and engaged throughout the school year. Topics will include strategies for building community within ensemble groups, creative methods for sequential teaching, score preparation, practical rehearsal techniques, and music reading sessions.

During this session, Victor Johnson will be in his virtual classroom ready to answer specific questions and to provide one-on-one time with participants who desire additional information about secondary choral music related issues or music education concerns.

Exploring Music Composition Outside of the Music Classroom
Wednesday

Music composition is a wonderfully creative tool that can easily be used by various disciplines outside of the music classroom. In this interlude, Victor Johnson will describe foundational composition principles that can be used in a variety of cross-curricular activities.
