Poetry Out Loud (POL) is a partnership of the National Endowment for the Arts, Poetry Foundation, and theTennessee Arts Commission (TAC). In this session, TAC staff will highlight how to implement this national program in schools or other organizations. POL encourages the study and performance of great poetry by offering free educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition for high school students. Students select, memorize, and perform classic and contemporary poems, which helps them master vocal interpretation skills, build their self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life.
Michelle Sipes is the state coordinator for Poetry Out Loud Tennessee and arts learning specialist at theTennessee Arts Commission. She is also a dancer, educator, and arts administrator who holds degrees in dance from the Ohio State University and Belhaven University.
